Commissions

Understanding
The process

As an artist, portraits have come to be my first love, and it is such a unique honor and privilege to be asked to immortalize a special person in a client’s life into a forever cherished piece. Whether your painting is of yourself or a loved one, I handle each commission with great care to ensure that the subject's likeness and personality are faithfully captured. I attempt my best to capture the essence of what embodies the subject, that is most important for me as it allows the client to deeply connect with the painting. By combining time-honored techniques with top quality archival materials, I ensure that not only will your painting be uniquely beautiful and special, it will last for years to come.

Step 1
BEGINNING YOUR PORTRAIT

My first step is to communicate with you on your vision for your portrait commission. We’ll discuss the subject to be painted, the size of the piece, and any stylistic preferences you have such as level of detail, background, and best approaches to capturing their likeness.

Portraits are painted on hardboard panels. You have the option of selecting from a thin ⅛” panel or a thick 1.5” cradled panel. I prefer to paint on hardboard panels because of their smoother texture, which aids in a more realistic finish, and also due to their archival qualities (i.e. they don’t fade or warp overtime).

step 2
PAYMENT & COMPLETION

The client will provide a 50% deposit to reserve their commission. When the painting is completed, the client will be shown their painting in several detailed photos. This will be the final opportunity for the client to look at the piece and make any final minor adjustments.

Once the client is satisfied with the finished portrait, the client will pay the remaining balance and the piece will be varnished and ready to ship.

Insured shipping is available at cost, with every possible measure taken to ensure the safe delivery. Shipping is factored in to commission prices for client's orders placed domestically (U.S.). For international commissions, shipping prices will be calculated and totaled in the client's final commission price.

An 8x10” oil portrait of a single subject starts at $800. To determine prices for a larger piece, or one that includes additional subjects, please refer to my commission prices .
